Heating oil futures prices may hit new highs this year because of higher crude oil prices. The fact that a new refinery has not been built in the United States since 1976. This limited refinery capacity leaves heating oil futures prices vulnerable to price spikes if there are refinery problems, weather problems, political tensions in an oil producing region of the world or any other problem that hinders that flow of heating oil from point A to point B.
