Individual Retirement Accounts – What Are They?

The individual retirement account was established in 1974. At that time, only employees that did not have another retirement plan option available could invest. This was changed in 1981 by the Economic Recovery Tax Act. This allowed for the contributions and investments by any taxpayer that was below the age of 70.
